History Curriculum Day

We recently carried out a whole school History Curriculum Day. This gave us the opportunity to visit classes and see some History lessons in action. We were also able to talk to the children about their learning in History. Something that we noticed was how enthusiastic the children were about this area of the curriculum which was great to see!

Welcome to the History Curriculum Page

At Foundry Lane Primary School it is our intent that History will support pupils in gaining a coherent knowledge and understanding of Britain’s past and that of the wider world and inspire pupils’ curiosity to know more. As our pupils progress they will become Historians that are well equipped to ask perceptive questions, think critically, weigh evidence, sift arguments, and develop perspective and judgement. We will ensure that our curriculum addresses our vulnerable groups, such as pupils with special educational needs, those who struggle with PSHE and those with less experience of the world around them, and provides many opportunities for them to achieve the knowledge and skills that we would expect of all our pupils. We will do this through the pre-teaching of vocabulary, providing access to a range of resources, concrete, abstract and pictorial, and having an understanding of their emotional needs and catering for these, as we teach sensitive areas in history. We want pupils to understand and recognise the complexity of people’s lives, the process of change, the connections, contrasts and trends made over time and how historical events and people have changed the way we live our lives and the world around us today.
