Residentials
Residentials and Progressive Experiences
At Foundry Lane Primary School, we believe that some of the most valuable learning happens beyond the classroom. Our carefully planned residential and extended-day experiences provide children with opportunities to develop independence, resilience, confidence, and teamwork, while creating memories that last a lifetime.
Our programme has been designed as a progressive journey from Reception to Year 6, ensuring that each experience builds upon the last. As children grow, they are gradually encouraged to step outside their comfort zone, preparing them for longer residential visits and the wider challenges of life.
Throughout every experience, our Golden Rules, Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be Your Best, remain at the heart of everything we do. Children learn to take responsibility for themselves, support one another, show respect for different environments, and demonstrate perseverance when faced with new challenges.
A Progressive Journey
Reception, Campfire Adventure
Our youngest children begin their journey by staying after school to enjoy a campfire experience. This gentle introduction helps children build confidence, develop independence, and enjoy learning in a different environment while remaining in the familiar surroundings of school.
Year 1, Pizza and Games Evening
Children return to school after hours for an evening of games, activities, and pizza. This experience encourages independence, social skills, and confidence while helping children become comfortable spending extended time away from home.
Year 2, Evening Adventure
Building on their previous experience, Year 2 pupils return to school for an evening that includes a visit to the local park, pizza, changing into pyjamas, and completing their bedtime routines together. These simple but significant experiences help children develop independence and confidence in a supportive environment.
Year 3, School Sleepover
The first overnight experience takes place in the familiar surroundings of school. Children learn to manage overnight routines, work collaboratively with their peers, and develop resilience while taking an important step towards future residential visits.
Year 4, Off-Site Camp
Children experience their first residential away from school through an off-site camping experience. Outdoor learning, teamwork, and problem-solving encourage children to embrace challenge, build resilience, and strengthen friendships.
Year 5, Curriculum-Focused Residential
Our Year 5 residential combines curriculum learning with outdoor adventure. Pupils deepen their understanding of classroom learning while developing independence, teamwork, and leadership through shared experiences away from home.
Year 6, Four-Night Residential
The culmination of our residential programme is a four-night residential that provides children with unforgettable opportunities for personal growth. Through curriculum-based learning, adventurous activities, and team-building experiences, pupils develop confidence, resilience, leadership, and a strong sense of responsibility as they prepare for the transition to secondary school.
Building Character Through Experience
Our residential programme is about far more than spending time away from home. Each experience has been carefully planned to develop the personal qualities that underpin success in school and beyond.
Children learn to:
-
Be Safe by taking responsibility for themselves and others
-
Be Respectful by showing kindness, cooperation, and consideration for their peers, adults, and the environment
-
Be Your Best by embracing challenge, demonstrating resilience, and stepping outside their comfort zone
By providing a carefully sequenced programme of experiences from Reception to Year 6, we ensure that every child leaves Foundry Lane with not only wonderful memories but also the confidence, independence, and resilience needed for the next stage of their education and for life beyond primary school.
