Democracy 

Children learn about democracy through meaningful opportunities to have their voices heard. Elections for School Council and House Captain roles give children first-hand experience of voting, representation, and leadership. Pupil voice is highly valued, with children encouraged to share ideas, contribute to decision-making, and help shape our school community. 

The Rule of Law 

Our Golden Rules, Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be Your Best, underpin daily life at Foundry Lane. Children learn the importance of rules, fairness, and personal responsibility, understanding that clear expectations help create a safe, happy, and successful learning environment. They learn about consequences, both positive and negative, and through positive relationships and restorative conversations, they learn to reflect on their choices and understand the impact of their actions on others. 

Individual Liberty 

We encourage children to develop independence, confidence, and resilience by providing a wide range of opportunities to challenge themselves, discover new interests, and take on responsibility, including through our variety of pupil leadership groups. Children are supported to make positive choices, celebrate their individuality, and develop the confidence to express themselves respectfully, while understanding the importance of respecting the rights and freedoms of others. 

Mutual Respect and Tolerance 

We celebrate the diversity of our school and the wider world, ensuring every child feels valued, respected, and included. Through our curriculum, assemblies, themed events, and visitors, children develop an understanding of different cultures, faiths, beliefs, and backgrounds. We encourage children to embrace differences, challenge stereotypes, and show kindness, empathy, and respect towards everyone.

• Our Civic Award, based on the Junior Duke Award, giving every Year 6 child the opportunity to develop life skills through volunteering, community service, physical activity, learning new skills, and personal challenge

• Our Green Flag Eco-School Award, empowering children to care for the environment and understand their role as responsible global citizens 

• Bikeability training, helping children develop independence while learning how to travel safely and responsibly 

• Opportunities to work with schools across our Trust, including welcoming secondary students into our school to complete valuable work experience placements and develop their understanding of careers in education 

• Charity fundraising, community events, and projects that encourage children to make a positive difference to others
