At lunchtime, children can have either a meal provided by our kitchen staff or bring a packed lunch from home. 

Unless your child is in receipt of free school meals, you need to pay for their dinners. 

• -  Hot meals (including jacket potatoes) are £3.20 each 

• -  A roll/sandwich is also £3.20 

• -  All meals include a dessert. 

Dinners are ordered and paid for through the Arbor Parent Portal. 

To order school dinners, you will need an Arbor account. If you do not have an account for your child, you can email the office on info@foundrylaneprimary.co.uk. Once you have an account, you should download the Arbor App. 

Dinners must be paid for in advance and the dinner account must have enough money on it for your child to be able to order a dinner on the account. 

At lunchtime, the children are allowed to go out onto the playground by themselves, adults will be waiting for them outside. If your child is starting in Year R, their class teachers will take them out and will be on duty during lunchtime for their first term at school, until they are settled in. 

We have some fantastic play provision for children during lunchtime, including various adult-led groups as well as child-led groups. At the end of lunchtime, the children will line up to go back into class. Please do encourage your child to go to the toilet during playtime and lunchtime. 

If your child has any food allergies, please do speak to us regarding specific menus.

Free School Meals 

If your child is in Year R, 1 or 2 then they will receive State-funded Free School Meals. This means you do not have to start paying for your child's dinners until they go into Year 3! 

Some parents are also entitled to benefit related Free School Meals, meaning your child will get Free School Meals no matter what year group they are in.

Packed Lunches 

Children may bring in a packed lunch from home. Please note that we are an allergy aware school: see our allergy aware guidance below for details on nuts and packed lunches. 

We don't have refrigerated facilities to store lunchboxes, so we recommend that you provide a cool bag depending on the nature of food that you provide for your child. 

Please note that in order to promote healthy lifestyles, children should have healthy lunch boxes Monday to Friday. 

Children are discouraged from bringing sweets and confectionery (such as chocolate bars) or fizzy drinks in their packed lunch. 

The children are supervised during the lunch break, both whilst eating and in the playground.

Snack Time 

All Reception and KS1 children are provided with a free piece of fruit daily. KS2 children are invited to bring fruit, vegetables or cheese as a snack for break time. We do not promote crisps, biscuits or chocolate as a snack.

Drinks 

Milk is available for all children under the age of 5. For more information, please contact the school office. 

Please send in your child with a bottle of water each day (not fruit squash please). We encourage all children to keep hydrated throughout the day and ensure that there is fresh water available at appropriate times.

Allergy Aware Guidance 

Foundry Lane Primary School is an allergy aware school. We have children with severe nut allergies, and we ask all parents and carers to help keep them safe by avoiding nuts and nut products in packed lunches. 

We ask that the following items are not brought into school: 

• -  Packs of nuts 

• -  Peanut butter or Nutella sandwiches 

• -  Fruit and cereal bars that contain nuts 

• -  Chocolate bars or sweets that contain nuts or hazelnut spread 

• -  Sesame seed rolls and breads containing sesame seeds (children allergic to nuts may        also have a severe reaction to sesame) 

• -  Cakes made with nuts 

• -  Any home-cooked meals for packed lunches that are made with nuts 

We do not use nuts in any food prepared on site, and our suppliers provide us with nut-free products for school meals. However, we cannot guarantee that any food, whether provided by the school or brought in from home, is completely free from nut traces. We ask all families to support our allergy aware practices so that, together, we can reduce risk as much as possible.

Parents and carers must notify staff of any known or suspected allergy to nuts and provide all relevant medical information. This will be added to your child's care plan and, if necessary, a meeting will be arranged with the school first aid lead and the catering team. 

All children are regularly reminded about good hygiene practice, including washing hands before and after eating, which helps reduce the risk of secondary contamination. Children are also reminded, and carefully supervised, to minimise food sharing with friends.

Birthday Treats 

We love celebrating birthdays at Foundry Lane! However, we kindly ask that parents and carers do not send in sweets, cakes, or other treats from home to share with the class. 

While we know this is a lovely way to mark the occasion, we have a number of children with severe allergies, and we cannot be certain that home-baked or shop-bought treats are safe for everyone to eat. We want every child to be able to join in the celebration without any risk, so we ask that birthdays are celebrated at school in other ways instead. 

Thank you for understanding and for helping us keep all our children safe.

We use Arbor for our online payments. You may already have an account. If so, that's great news, they've released a mobile app.
