Today we are looking at the Number 10. Watch the following Number blocks episode with your child (on BBC IPlayer, Numberblocks series 2- Ten). https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b08phr1g/numberblocks-series-2-ten
Have a look at the following picture, can you find all of the things where there are 10 of the same object?
Now we are going to see how many different ways we can make the number 10. We are going to be thinking about the pairs of numbers which add together to make 10. Encourage your child to count out 10 objects, this could be 10 teddies, 10 cars, and 10 play people, 10 pieces of Lego. Then collect 2 plates, how many different ways can we split our 10 objects between 2 plates, this will then give us the numbers which go together to make 10 (0 and 10, 1 and 9, 2 and 8, 3 and 7, 6 and 4, 5 and 5). Can your child have a go at recording their answers? E.G. 5 + 5 = 10.
CHALLENGE:
Can you find other ways of making 10? E.g. 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 =10. How many different ways can you find? Can you record these as number sentences?
Maths
Today we are looking at the Number 9. Watch the following Number blocks episode with your child (on BBC IPlayer, Numberblocks series 2- Nine). https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b08phbzc/numberblocks-series-2-nine
Have a look at the following picture, can you find all of the things where there are 9 of the same object?
Now we are going to see how many different ways we can make the number 9. We are going to be thinking about the pairs of numbers which add together to make 9. Encourage your child to count out 9 objects, this could be 9 teddies, 9 cars, 9 play people, 9 pieces of lego. Then collect 2 plates, how many different ways can we split our 9 objects between 2 plates, this will then give us the numbers which go together to make 9 (0 and 9, 1 and 8, 2 and 7, 3 and 6, 4 and 5). Can your child have a go at recording their answers? E.G. 4 + 5 = 9.
CHALLENGE:
Can you find other ways of making 9? E.g. 2 + 2 + 2 + 3. How many different ways can you find? Can you record these as number sentences?
Winter Topic
Today we would like you to make a winter picture. You can be as creative as you like. You may want to make a collage, draw a picture or use paints, whatever you have at home.
Here are some ideas
Don't forget to send in your pictures either by taking a photo for sending via email or keeping it to send in to school.
Day 3 - Wednesday 6th January 2021
Today we are starting our phonics zoom sessions which you should have been emailed the link for. The teacher will share the screen with you and will go through the same phonics as below. If you are able to join the zoom then don't worry about going through the phonics below.

Today we are looking at the Number 8. Watch the following Number blocks episode with your child (on BBC IPlayer, Numberblocks series 2- Eight). https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b08pgvmb/numberblocks-series-2-eight
Have a look at the following picture, can you find all of the things where there are 8 of the same object?
Now we are going to see how many different ways we can make the number 8. We are going to be thinking about the pairs of numbers which add together to make 8. Encourage your child to count out 8 objects, this could be 8 teddies, 8 cars, 8 play people, 8 pieces of lego. Then collect 2 plates, how many different ways can we split our 8 objects between 2 plates, this will then give us the numbers which go together to make 8 (0 and 8, 1 and 7, 2 and 6, 3 and 5, 4 and 4). Can your child have a go at recording their answers? E.G. 4 + 4 = 8.
CHALLENGE:
Can you find other ways of making 8? E.g. 2 + 2 + 2 + 2. How many different ways can you find? Can you record these as number sentences?
Winter Topic
Today we are looking at ice water state cycle. This is how water can be changed from a liquid to a solid and back to a liquid. We have attached a printable document below for your child to complete but if you do not have a printer you can just draw 4 boxes with arrows and then your child can draw a picture in each box explaining what is happening and how we can make it change.
Here are some pictures of how the children melted the ice in school:
Can they talk about how they made the ice.. what happened to it when it was in the freezer? What happens when it came out of the freezer? How did you melt it? What happened when it melted? What was left? Was it water? What could you do with that water to turn it back into ice?
Maths
Today we are looking at the Number 7. Watch the following Number blocks episode with your child (on BBC IPlayer, Numberblocks series 2- seven) https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b08pgqt4/numberblocks-series-2-seven.
Have a look at the following picture, can you find all of the things where there are 7 of the same object?
Now we are going to see how many different ways we can make the number 7. We are going to be thinking about the pairs of numbers which add together to make 7. Encourage your child to count out 7 objects, this could be 7 teddies, 7 cars, 7 play people, 7 pieces of lego. Then collect 2 plates, how many different ways can we split our 7 objects between 2 plates, this will then give us the numbers which go together to make 7 (0 and 7, 1 and 6, 2 and 5, 3 and 4). Can your child have a go at recording their answers? E.G. 4 + 3 = 7.
CHALLENGE:
Can you find other ways of making 7? E.g. 2 + 2 + 2 + 1. How many different ways can you find? Can you record these as number sentences?
Remember to take photos and send them in to show us.
Winter Topic
Yesterday we hope you enjoyed a winter walk (although it was quite mild)
Today we would like you to look at how we change water (a liquid) into a solid by freezing it. With your child pour water into a contain (ice cube tray or something suitable) then put it in the freezer. Talk about what they think will happen. Check on it every hour to see what is happening. If you are feeling adventurous you may want to add something to the water, this could be a piece of lego, glitter, car etc. Then you can talk about how you can get the object out. Also if you have any spare rubber gloves at home this is also fun to freeze!
Once the water has frozen get it out of the freezer and discuss what has happened to the water. 'It was a liquid and now it is a solid.' Can we turn it back to a liquid? How can we do this? What could we do to make it melt quicker?
Please take photos of what you are doing and send them to the yearr@foundrylaneprimary.co.uk email as we would love to see what you are doing and finding out. Let us know how to melt ice quickly!
While you are waiting for the water to freeze can you look at this picture and describe what you can see.
Day 1 - Monday 4th January 2021
Maths
Today we are looking at the Number 6. Watch the following Number blocks episode with your child (on BBC IPlayer, Numberblocks series 2- Six) https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b08pgksd/numberblocks-series-2-six.
Have a look at the following picture, can you find all of the things where there are 6 of the same object?
Now we are going to see how many different ways we can make the number 6. We are going to be thinking about the pairs of numbers which add together to make 6.
Encourage your child to count out 6 objects, this could be 6 teddies, 6 cars, 6 play people, 6 pieces of lego. Then collect 2 plates, how many different ways can we split our 6 objects between 2 plates, this will then give us the numbers which go together to make 6 (0 and 6, 1 and 5, 2 and 4, 3 and 3). Can your child have a go at recording their answers? E.G. 4 + 2 = 6.
CHALLENGE:
Can you find other ways of making 6? E.g. 2 + 2 + 2. How many different ways can you find? Can you record these as number sentences?
This week we are starting to learn about Winter.
In topic we will be learning about the cycle of water and ice. We will be discussing the season Winter and looking at the signs of winter such as colder weather, frost, icy puddles and snow!
We no it isn't as cold as last week but today can you go on a winter walk near your house and look for any signs of winter?
If you find anything frozen, frosty or icy can you draw a picture of what you saw? You could challenge yourself to use your phonic sounds to label your picture! We would love to see your work so maybe a grown up can send us a picture through the yearr@foundrylaneprimary.co.uk email.
When you went for your walk did we have to wear any special clothes because it is winter? Like coats and gloves? Why do we need to wear them on winter and not in the summer? Maybe you could draw a picture of what you have to wear or take a selfie!
Below are some pictures Mrs Lush took on New Years Day, some were on the common. Maybe you could have a look at these and see what the signs of Winter are in the pictures.
The Kindness Elves
We hope you have had a lovely Christmas. Before the holidays we had kindness Elves visiting our classrooms. They set us a number of challenges to complete each day, carrying on from this we thought it would be lovely to write or make a thank you note to someone to thank them for a present that you received.
Please think about:
What was your favourite present?
Who got you the present?
Why was it special to you?
What would you put in a Thank you letter?
Don’t forget to listen for the sounds you can hear in the words before you write them.
